The Czech had been in an induced coma after collapsing with cardiac arrest while running near his home on December 20. Tests revealed that Srnicek had suffered suffered irreversible brain damage.
His agent, Steve Wraith, said the final brain scans on Monday had shown “irreversible damage” and the decision “had to be taken” to switch off the life support machine.
He was a big favourite for many fans during his time at St James’ Park between 1991 and 1998.
Goalkeeper passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday, 29 December 2015.
